Why is there suffering in the world - A Buddhist Approach

This term you will learn about the religion of Buddhism, through a focus on why there is suffering in the world.

With a final task of producing a written piece about the life of the Buddha, this unit emphasises the fundamental teachings of Buddhism, which form the inspiration for living from a Buddhist perspective.  By the end of this module students will be familiar with Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, the 4 Noble Truths, the 3 Universal Truths, the eightfold path, enlightenment, dukkha and Buddhist monks and nuns.

Pupils are encouraged to reflect and analyse Buddhist teachings and images and how these can mean many different things to Buddhist believers.  Pupils examine and understand what happened in the Buddha’s life and why it is so important for Buddhists to celebrate it.
