RE at Fairfield

With a knowledge and understanding of the world faiths, we can learn to respect and accept differing ways of life.  RE is thus essential in a multicultural society like the one we live in today.  In RE at FHS we like to ask the questions that really matter and investigate both our own, and others views.

Religious Education is taught as a discrete subject throughout the school.  There is a compulsory full GCSE course which is completed during Years 10 and 11.

RE at Fairfield is taught by Miss Storey, Miss Mihaylov and Miss Greenwood. (AST@fairfield.bristol.sch.uk / AMI@fairfield.bristol.sch.uk/ CGR@fairfield.bristol.sch.uk)

It is a successful department both in its results and growing popularity with the students. Our results have risen nearly 20% in the last three years with over 70% students achieving their target grade or above in 2017. Our aim is to promote knowledge and understanding of the world faiths together with respect and acceptance for differing life values and doctrines. We see learning outside of the classroom as vital to good R.E. In respect of this, students are given regular opportunities to visit places of worship, participate in various activities and meet representatives from different faith communities.  Religions studied at Fairfield include; Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and as a response to student voice, Rastafari.

What do the students think of R.E.?

“R.E. is cool. We live in a multi-religious country and so it is important to learn R.E. It is interesting and really fun and the teachers are really nice. You always have a chance to argue your view, and believe me there is always something to say. R.E. rocks!  (Poppy Falk, Year 11 student)
